Sebastian Alvarez of Unilever UK is to become the Chairman of the British Aerosol Manufacturers‘ Association (BAMA). He takes up the post  on April 11, 2016, having previously held the role of Vice Chairman of the Association. He has been a member of the BAMA Board since 2009.

He succeeds Grant Coupland, who has been Chairman for the past two years.

Grant Coupland has led BAMA through a number of important changes, not least the appointment of its new Chief Executive, Patrick Heskins, who took up post in August 2015.

Alvarez said: “The Secretariat and Executive Committee are grateful to Grant for all his hard work for the Association, its membership and the industry during his tenure. I look forward to our continued working relationship as he remains on the Executive Committee and is a valued member of the leadership team”.

Speaking of his new role, Alvarez added: “I am honored to be appointed to lead the Association and work with the Secretariat. One of my key objectives is to ensure we stay informed, as an industry, of new legislation and help shape it where possible. I also want to make sure that the next generation is aware of the fantastic career opportunities within the aerosol sector. We have identified the areas we wish to develop as an industry and I am looking forward to working with the BAMA team and the rest of the Executive Committee to help our Members implement these initiatives”.

Coupland said: “It has been my privilege to represent the Membership of BAMA and to work alongside my very professional peers on the Executive Committee and the Secretariat during these last two years. It has also been my pleasure to work with the team on the BAMA 2020 Strategy which helps to define the priorities for the Association and also the Future Of Aerosols study which helps align the members on the sustainability context in which we now all operate. Having now completed my tenure, I step down as Chairman knowing I leave this post in the very capable hands of Sebastian”.

The new Vice Chairman will be announced later in the Spring.
