SABRE, a brand of personal safety products, announced that it has received certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State of California for its Frontiersman Max Bear & Mountain Lion Spray.
Approved and federally registered with the EPA to deter both bears and mountain lions, Frontiersman Max is made with 2.0% major capsaicinoids, the strongest formula allowed by law. It uses HFO-1234ze, a propellant that, according to the company, reduces environmental impact without compromising safety or performance. The Frontiersman Max spray combines maximum stopping power with a range of 40 feet, meaning it can be deployed from a safer distance to deter an aggressive bear, mountain lion or other big cat, according to the company.
California’s emergency approval, issued in Spring 2025, underscores the growing necessity of dual-species deterrents as wildlife corridors expand through legislation. SABRE noted that Frontiersman Max meets this challenge with maximum EPA-permitted strength, dual-species field testing and environmentally conscious formulation.
David Nance, CEO of SABRE, stated, “Our mission is to keep people and wildlife safe. Frontiersman Max Bear and Mountain Lion Spray represents the highest standard in personal protection while supporting sustainable outdoor practices.
“With increasing wildlife activity across the country, we want everyone—from hikers to homeowners—to feel confident and prepared,” Nance added.
