Unilever is investing 30 billion forints ($90 million USD) in a new production facility in Nyírbátor, Hungary, that will focus on manufacturing hygiene and deodorant products in the country, according to Hungary Today (Unilever already manufactures home care brands in Hungary).
The expansion includes a 10,000 sq meter factory that will produce an estimated 150 million aerosol deodorant cans annually on three production lines, mainly for Eastern European markets. The Nyírbátor plant will be Unilever’s fourth-largest facility globally.
Construction began in Fall 2024, and trial operations are planned for Summer 2026. Once completed, the new complex will consist of a production hall, a raw material mixing plant, offices, and a raw material and finished goods warehouse. Since the site is located on sandy soil, it will meet strict fire and occupational safety regulations.
Located next door to Unilever’s existing household chemical plant, which supplies products including Domestos and Flóraszept, the new facility is scheduled to start manufacturing Axe, Rexona, and Dove deodorants as well as packaging and storing the products. In addition to increasing Unilever’s production capacity in the area, the new plant will create jobs and strengthen the industrial importance of the region.
The investment aims to strengthen Unilever’s European regional supply for personal care aerosols and create local jobs.
