A propellant may be considered renewable in two primary ways. It can be physically derived from non-fossil, biogenic feedstocks such as plant oils, used cooking oils, or other renewable waste streams, said Aeropres. Alternatively, it may be certified as renewable through mass balance or book-and-claim methodologies, in which traditional molecules are allocated renewable attributes, which are credited through a documented certification process. AeroNu Renewable Propane is molecularly identical to conventional propane (C₃H₈); the distinction lies not in performance, but in origin, Aeropres explained. Rather than being produced from fossil fuels, renewable propane is derived from certified renewable feedstocks. AeroNu renewable dimethyl ether (rDME), anticipated in the third quarter of 2026, is similarly produced from renewable biomass sources. Aeropres partnered with Oberon to make aerosol-grade, plant-based, renewable DME available. Because these molecules meet traditional aerosol-grade specifications, AeroNu Renewable Propellants can be used as drop-in replacements in most aerosol applications, according to the firm. Vapor pressure, spray characteristics and atomization performance remain consistent with conventional propane and DME formulations, allowing manufacturers to incorporate renewable options without fundamental infrastructure changes, new valve systems or significant reformulation in most use cases.
