Unilever has acquired prestige skin care company Tatcha for an estimated $500 million, according to reports. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The brand was founded by Vicky Tsai a decade ago and is expected to experience sales of approximately $100 million in 2019. Items such as creams, mists, cleansers and exfoliators utilizing Japanese traditions and ingredients are sold at retailers like Sephora.
Tatcha joins Unilever’s acquired prestige brands Murad, Dermalogica, REN Clean Skincare, Kate Somerville, Living Proof and Hourglass. Unilever has also invested in several early-stage independent skin care and cosmetics companies in recent years such as True Botanicals, Dr. Roebuck’s, Nutrafol and Beauty Bakerie, as well as brand incubation with Love Beauty and Planet that launched in 2017.
