SCC announces winners of Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship; accepting nominations for further industry recognition awards

The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) has announced the winners of the Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship, sponsored by Mary Kay Inc.

The selection committee, which included Madam C.J. Walker’s great-great-granddaughter, A’Lelia Bundles, chose these two awardees from a large group of candidates; each awardee will receive a $5,000 scholarship:

 

  • Carolina Aguilera Barraza—Northeastern University (Undergraduate student majoring in Chemical Engineering)

 

  • Collette Tamar Gordon—University of Southern California (Graduate student majoring in Chemistry)

 

Finalists also recognized by the selection committee this year for their outstanding achievements were:

 

  • Micaela Reyes—York College/CUNY (Undergraduate student majoring in Pharmaceutical Science)

 

  • Victoria Humphrey—JFK/University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (Post-graduate/General Medical Education-Dermatology)

 

The SCC is currently also accepting nominations for the following industry recognition awards; the application deadline for all awards is August 30, 2022:

 

Maison G. deNavarre Medal Award

The Maison G. DeNavarre Medal Award is the Society’s highest honor.  It is named after Society of Cosmetic Chemists founder Maison G. DeNavarre and is designed to recognize an individual for accomplishments in activity supporting the best interests of the cosmetic industry through technical contributions.  Membership in SCC not required.  Full Eligibility and Application available here.

 

Florence Wall Women in Cosmetic Chemistry Award

The Florence Wall Women in Cosmetic Chemistry Award recognizes a woman for significant accomplishments in the cosmetic industry through technical contributions, leadership skills, and business excellence.  Membership in SCC preferred, but not required.  Full Eligibility and Application available here.

 

Robert A. Kramer Lifetime Service Award

The Robert A. Kramer Lifetime Service Award is presented to an individual who has given extraordinary service and distinguished leadership in Society activities over the course of their membership.  Membership in SCC required.  Full Eligibility and Application available here.

 

SCC Merit Award

The Society of Cosmetic Chemists Merit Award is presented to an individual in recognition of outstanding service, distinguished leadership, and exceptional contributions to the Society on a National level. Full Eligibility and Application available here.
